HOSPITAL BED RACES CANCELLED

Fort McMurray – It is with sincere regret that the Northern Lights Health Foundation and Alberta Health Services announces the cancellation of the 2021 Hospital Bed Races, sponsored by Raymond James. The event was to be held this Saturday, September 25.

As COVID case numbers escalate, and pressure increases on hospitals throughout the province, AHS-related events and gatherings are discouraged until the Public Health State of Emergency is lifted. While the health measures in place for the event exceeded requirements, the Northern Lights Health Foundation understands our role in assuring that community members are not put at risk from a fundraising event in support of health.

The 4th Annual Hospital Bed Races is the second event the Health Foundation has been forced to cancel since the beginning of the pandemic. In addition, the 2020 Festival of Trees was scaled back considerably to ensure social distancing and low contact. Such signature events as the Ugly Christmas Sweater Party, the Festival Gala, the Daddy Daughter Sugar Plum Fairy Ball, and Santa‘s Workshop were all either modified or cancelled.

This notification comes as a great disappointment to the Foundation, the sponsors, the volunteers, and the racers who have raised funds from across Canada in support of healthcare initiatives in our region.

The Health Foundation would like to sincerely thank the Hospital Bed Race sponsors and race teams for their generous contributions. We know that the event would have been a great success and we look forward to celebrating the 5th anniversary of the Hospital Bed Races together in 2022.
