Health Foundation receives $1 million commitment from
General Presidents’ Maintenance Committee
Fort McMurray, Alberta – The Northern Lights Health Foundation is receiving a $1 million commitment over three years from a group of 13 building trades unions in support of health care in Wood Buffalo. The General President’s Maintenance Committee (GPMC) will present the Health Foundation with a cheque for $300,000, the second installment of three, during a ceremony held on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at the Sawridge Inn Fort McMurray.
GPMC’s gift will go to the Health Foundation’s unrestricted fund, providing the means to fund areas of greatest health care need in the Wood Buffalo region. Last year’s installment of $400,000 resulted in the Health Foundation funding pieces of equipment vital to the ongoing success of a new spinal surgery program offered at the Northern Light Regional Health Centre.
“The Health Foundation is incredibly grateful to receive a $1 million commitment from the GPMC in support of health care in our region,” says Susanne Chaffey, Executive Director of the Health Foundation. “Their support of the Health Foundation’s unrestricted fund allows our organization to respond to our region’s most critical health care needs, positively impacting countless patients receiving care in our community.”
"Many construction union members and their families have made Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo their home,” says Jack White, Vice Chair of the GPMC. “We're happy to give back to the community and to share our desire to contribute to its growth,"
Established in 1952, the GPMC is an alliance of 13 international building trades unions whose members perform maintenance work on large industrial facilities in the oil sands and across Canada. The organization negotiates and administers agreements with more than 120 employers, which employ more than 16,000 skilled trades people across Canada.
