Fort Mac Hockey Bros and Champions Make Fort McKay Donation

Fort McMurray, Alberta – The first official hockey equipment donation from the Fort Mac Hockey Bros ‘Fill the Box Campaign’ has been delivered to the community of Fort McKay at a skating party event hosted by Finning Canada and Suncor. The Fort Mac Hockey Bros first put out a call in September for individuals and companies to support their campaign dream to give children in the region the opportunity to play the great Canadian game of hockey by ensuring that kids had the appropriate equipment.

Thousands of dollars’ worth of cash, gift cards, and hockey equipment donations has been received. The boys’ campaign really took a leap forward at the Northern Lights Health Foundation Festival of Trees. The Hockey Bros entered a tree into the live auction which raised a whopping $100,000 from two generous supporters, Finning and Suncor.

“The idea of what the boys were doing for others really captured our hearts,’ said Brent Davis, vice president of Mining Solutions for Finning. “When we found out that the tree included helping the boys to distribute the equipment donations we turned up the heat in our bidding!”

“These two young boys are a great example of how to make a difference, not only in someone else’s life, but for a community,” said Bruno Francoeur, Suncor regional operations executive. “The combination of a great idea, hard work, and personal commitment was very meaningful for us at Suncor and it has been a pleasure to support this initiative.”

Kids from the Fort McKay School joined representatives from Fort McKay First Nation, Finning, Suncor and the Health Foundation for greetings and hot chocolate before hitting the ice.
