Fort McMurray, Alberta – This past weekend, the Northern Lights Health Foundation received a $69,000 donation from Shell Albian Sands and participating contractors who supported the spring 2016 Turnaround at Albian. Shell’s 22-day Goal Zero Turnaround safety campaign raised funds for equipment vital to maternal health care in our region.
For each Goal Zero day – a day without work-related incidents or leaks – Shell pledged $2,000 towards the purchase of two neonatal warmers with perinatal monitors for the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre. The new equipment has the ability to regulate a fragile baby’s body temperature and features AutoBreath technology which provides precise respiratory services to babies, preventing respiratory complications and safeguarding fragile lungs.
The Northern Lights Health Foundation recently funded a tele health nursery project in partnership with the Stollery Children’s Hospital. “This innovative project will provide access to medical services not previously available in Wood Buffalo. The neonatal warmers with perinatal monitors Shell is funding will ensure caregivers have access to the best medical tools when they need them most,” said Cindy Amerongen, Executive Director of the Health Foundation. “On behalf of the Health Foundation’s Board of Directors and Staff, we thank Shell’s team and contractors for their support.”
“Safety is a core value at Shell,” said Patrick McCormick, Safety Manager for Shell Albian Sands. “To us, there is nothing more important than our employees and contractors going home safely to their loved ones each day. We invest in campaigns like this to reinforce the personal aspect of safety. When we work safely everyone wins – our employees, contractors, families and communities.”
Shell invited all turnaround execution contractors at its Jackpine Mine to participate in the campaign, including Fisher Powerline Construction Ltd., Quadra Industrial Services, Safway Services Canada and Wajax.
Following the Turnaround, Shell extended the campaign into their Muskeg River Mine Pitstop safety program to ensure enough money was raised to fund the two neonatal warmers in full. Funds raised through both the Jackpine Mine Turnaround and Muskeg River Mine Pitstop exceeded the initial campaign goal!
