Northern Lights Health Foundation Brings Healthcare Innovation to the Forefront
Spring Fling 2022 presented by Syncrude a Return to Excellence
At Spring Fling 2022, presented by Syncrude, the Northern Lights Health Foundation showed just how much local healthcare initiatives have evolved over the past few years and raised $360,000 (net) for new projects!
The program kicked off with a Health Showcase presented by ATB which featured innovative technology for increased patient care and community support. Representatives from Alberta Health Services were on hand to describe the impact of donor support to advancing their program areas.
Guests were delighted by ‘Big Blue’ the double-rider tandem Fun2Go bike that was funded through a grant from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 165 to support senior’s health and reduce frailty from muscle loss. Guests were able to see their veins clearly through the Accuvein scanner and understand the impact of more accurate readings for injections for the elderly and children. Many other exciting pieces brought home that putting great tools and technology in the hands of caregivers is the best way to support them and their patients.
Of special interest to everyone was the ‘floating OR’ presented by the Tuccaro Group featuring the innovative technology currently being installed in the Northern Lights Health Centre operating rooms as part of the completion of Foundation’s Gratitude Campaign MIS project. The Stryker minimally invasive surgical equipment is absolutely a game-changer for increasing the type and number of surgeries that will be done locally.
Spring Fling is the Health Foundation’s opportunity to showcase completed, current, and future projects funded by sponsors and donors. Through speakers and videos, the Foundation showed how donor generosity has led to major systems improvements at the hospital, in patient care and safety, in increased access to services, and in ensuring the facility has leading edge surgery, medication management, and patient spaces.
Upcoming projects in Children’s Mental Health, seniors’ Care, Continuing Care, Home Care, and Indigenous Health were announced including the creation of two children’s mental health spaces – the Sentopia Centre presented by Syncrude and the Synergy Hub presented by CNOOC International. Donations at the event towards the creation of these spaces totaled over $100,000.
The live auction action was energized as guests bid on unique package including Walk the Orange Path Truth and Reconciliation workshop donated by Athabasca Tribal Council which raised $24,500. The total auction raised over $81,000.
Throughout the night guests played Giant Plinko and Giant Operation in an attempt to secure the grand prizes. The photo booth was active as guests captured their first major outing in over two years. The Blooming 5050 presented by True North Automotive raised $16,050 with the winner taking $8,025.
“Healthcare is for everyone and it takes a collaborative effort to support each other to create the healthy lives we all want,” said Cindy Amerongen, Executive Director of the Northern Lights Health Foundation. “We can’t begin to adequately thank the sponsors, service providers, and volunteers who helped bring this event together. Together we are stronger, more innovative, more responsive, and more able to support our local healthcare teams to do the tough and compassionate work they do every day.”
