The Northern Lights Health Foundation’s Inaugural Hospital Bed Races, presented by Raymond James

Raises  $ 51,000.00 (net)!

Fort McMurray, Alberta – We are delighted by the response from this community for the Inaugural Hospital Bed Races.  Introducing a new event can be daunting, not only to the organization, but to the sponsors and participants as well.  The Health Foundation is pleased to acknowledge that 25 local business and individual sponsors stepped forward to help coordinate and launch the races.  In addition we had 30 volunteers helping ensure the event day ran smoothly and 12 participating teams of 5 members each racing for the coveted Golden Bedpan Trophy.

It was quite the spectacle of attire as the participating teams paraded onto the race track for the opening of the races.  The enthusiasm generated was outstanding with plenty of pure fun and entertaining antics going on; after all there was a Team Spirit award to be won and the outfits were hilarious!

“So much fun!” said Kyle Taback, Secretary Northern Lights Health Foundation Board of Directors. “The Foundation team introduced a brand new event to the community and reached every goal they had hoped to achieve. The level of commitment from this community; our sponsors, volunteers, and all the participants who raised pledges for local healthcare and the donors, who pledged them, is unbelievable. This truly was a fun event that brought the community together, at all levels, for a common cause.”

Cindy Amerongen, Executive Director of the Health Foundation said, “We could not have had a better partner than the Regional Municipality Emergency Services team. Allowing us to add the Bed Races as a feature event of the kickoff to the Annual Fire Prevention Week activities really gave us an audience and showed the community the breadth and depth of health, safety, and community wellness that is going on in this region. We had a blast and hope to do it all again next year!”

RACE RESULTS:

Golden Bed Pan Trophy Winner – Finning Flyers (Finning Canada)

Team Spirit Award – Unqualified Opinions (Keyano Nursing Students)

Team Fundraising Award – Ray Jay Good Squirrels (Raymond James)

Individual Team Fundraising Award – Nadine Allen of Ray Jay Good Squirrels (Raymond James)
