The Northern Lights Health Foundation’s 2nd Annual Hospital Bed Races, presented by Raymond James Raises $ 48,000 (net)!
Fort McMurray, Alberta – We are delighted to have had so many returning teams and new ones as well for the 2nd Annual Hospital Bed Races. This goes to show it is a lot of fun for participants and for such a great cause. The Health Foundation is pleased to acknowledge that 34 local business and individual sponsors stepped forward to help coordinate and launch the races for the 2nd year. In addition we had 30 volunteers helping ensure the event day ran smoothly and 12 participating teams of 5 members each racing for the coveted Golden Bedpan Trophy.
It was quite the spectacle of attire as the participating teams paraded onto the race track for the opening of the races. The Finning Flyers, as reigning champions, carried in the Golden Bedpan as though it were the Stanley Cup! The enthusiasm generated was outstanding with plenty of pure fun and entertaining antics going on; after all there was a Team Spirit award to be won and some outfits were very well thought out! It could not have been a better day for the event and the scenic location at the Snye was spectacular. Approximately 300 people were in attendance, enjoying not only the races, but the BBQ and the bouncy castle as well. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors we were able to bring more of a community event to the races this year.
“So much fun!” said Brent Janke, Director of the Northern Lights Health Foundation Board of Directors. “The laughter and enjoyment by all the participants said it all. The Foundation team introduced a brand new event to the community last year, it was so well received they had to do it again. The level of commitment from this community; our sponsors, volunteers, and all the participants who raised pledges for local healthcare and the donors, who pledged them, is unbelievable. This truly was a fun event that brought the community together, at all levels, for a common cause.”
When asked why she continues to support the Northern Lights Health Foundation (NLHF) Nadine Allen of Raymond James, the presenting sponsor of the event says, “Raymond James is in the Wealth business, NLHF is in the Health business and without our health, wealth doesn’t matter.”
“That about sums it up,” says Cindy Amerongen, Executive Director of the Health Foundation. “Healthcare is for everyone! Participants Race for Fun and Raise for Health. They did a great job fundraising and we all had a blast and hope to do it all again next year!”
