UNITE HERE Local 47 Makes Major Donation

Giving back to the communities in which they work is important to the members of the UNITE HERE Local 47 Camp Culinary and Hospitality Union. Not only do the members want to ensure that out of town workers have great living conditions when they are here working, the members are also contributing to the region by donating to a number of charities.

The Northern Lights Health Foundation is pleased to announce a donation of $100,000 from UNITE HERE Local 47 which represents thousands of Camp, Culinary and Hospitality workers at the Civeo, Horizon North, and Compass ESS camps in our region. This donation is unrestricted to the Foundation which will allow the Board of Directors to allocate the funds to current and emerging health care projects.

Ian Robb, President/Administrator of UNITE HERE Local 47 said the union has been in existence since 1944 and he started the community fund years ago to enable the members to help non-profits and charities to address their important missions.

“Our work in the hospitality industry is vital to the success of the region as we provide nutritious meals and a comfortable clean place to live for out of town and shift workers,” said Robb. “And of course we recognize that our members may have an impact on healthcare services. We know that great changes and impacts in healthcare require significant community and corporate investment and our members and our contractors are very pleased to provide this donation.”

“What a terrific way to start the 2022 fundraising year,” said Cindy Amerongen, executive director Northern Lights Health Foundation. “We want to thank Local 47 members for their generous donation as we have important projects underway at the hospital that require facility and technology renewal. Together with UNITE HERE Local 47 we will quickly advance those projects.”
