With your support, the Health Foundation has funded dozens of innovative health care programs and services in our community.
Currently we are fundraising for the following:
These two rooms are dedicated to the health and wellness of children and adolescents undergoing treatment at the hospital after presenting with severe mental health indicators. The project involves creating a new staff lounge for the surgical patient team, gutting the existing staff room and converting it to a sensory room for children (the Sentopia Centre), and converting a room currently used as a clean room for babies with bilirubin into a treatment space for adolescents (the Synergy Hub). The construction and outfitting of these three rooms is expected to cost in excess of $550,000.
We hope to raise $500,000 at an estimated cost of $10,000 and the balance of the construction costs will be contributed through the unrestricted funds generated by our signature events.
The Northern Lights Health Foundation Board has committed $500,000 in unrestricted funds towards the Better Together program. Over the next two years, AHS will be working together with community to understand the current health care service demand and where improvements and enhancements would support service delivery for Indigenous patients. It is our hope that donors will help to fund this important project with an end goal of creating an Indigenous Health Centre at the Northern Lights Health Centre.
We'd like to offer our special thank you to Syncrude (Operated by Suncor) for their generous donation of $250,000 as the presenting donor to this project. We hope to raise $500,000 at an estimated cost of $10,000 and the balance will be contributed through the unrestricted funds generated by our signature events. Please contact Cindy at 780-791-6178 to discuss how you can be involved in this important project.
Here's a selection the programs and services we've funded in recent years:
Thanks to a generous donation from the Suncor Energy Foundation, the hospital was able to create 6 brand new patient rooms hosting 10 beds on the 2nd floor of the Northern Lights Health Centre. This major expansion adds capacity for seniors beds which will become surgical and medical beds when the senior move to the Willow Square Continuing Care Centre in fall 2020.
Thanks to the generosity of donors, the Health Foundation was able to fully support the creation of a special care nursery within the Maternal Child ward. The nursery provides support to full-term and pre-term (36 weeks or greater) infants who need extra care. It will also serve as the staging location for infants requiring a greater level of care while they transition in and out of the community to the Stollery Children's Hospital. Your baby is in great hands with the maternal child team.
The Youth Mental Health Navigator position was generously supported by the RBC Foundation for the past years. The navigator worked with emergency services and with local agencies to build pathways for mental health supports for children suffering from acute mental health issues.
This renovation and expansion includes fresh paint, window coverings and furniture in existing labour and delivery rooms; the additional of one new post-partum bed, and two new labour and delivery rooms; moving the existing non-stress testing clinic to a new, more quiet space and the addition of a new waiting room.
This innovative project is in partnership with the Stollery Children's Hospital and will bring new medical services not previously available to children and their families in Wood Buffalo.
