Dr. Surinder Khinda, is the Facility Medical Director for Alberta Health Services at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre. Taking his director position approximately five years ago, he oversees medical affairs, physician related recruitment, operations and patient safety.

The AHS Addictions & Mental Health team, along with other national and provincial health and wellness organizations, offers a great deal of support to children and youth in our region. The health care system can be an overwhelming experience for children, youth and their families, especially when they are in a crisis situation. It can be difficult for families to obtain help for their children when they are not aware of what resources are available to them.

Dawn Booth is a familiar face around Fort McMurray as the Editor-in-Chief of the local news publication, snapd Wood Buffalo. Dawn and husband Ryan Booth have purchased not one, but two memorials for both of their children since the wall was erected.

Moving to Fort McMurray in 2006, Rolando and Nicole Inzunza quickly embraced their new home, becoming active community members and giving countless hours of their time to volunteer opportunities. Rolando and Nicole’s commitment to our region is undeniable, so much so, that Rolando was recently named as a finalist for the Volunteer Recognition Heart of Wood Buffalo Award in honour of Bill Bloomfield.

Truly humble people set themselves apart from the pack.They accomplish this feat with their above average sense of social responsibility and personal drive to always do “their part.” More often than not, the do-gooders work behind the scenes and they are the ones who make things happen. If you sit back and quietly observe community engagement activities, you can find these rare and amazing individuals in action. These types of people make our communities a brighter place to live.
