CIM Golf Tournament, presented by Foresite Geomatics raises $18,000 for local healthcare
Earlier this year, the Canadian Institute of Mining (CIM) Board of Directors was faced with the tough decision of whether or not to host the annual CIM Golf Tournament. After taking many factors into consideration; a hurt economy due to low oil prices, the threat of COVID-19 and the effects of the flooding in Fort McMurray, the board decided to host the tournament, recognizing the Northern Lights Health Foundation’s need for support is more than ever.
With new AHS Safety Protocols in place, the sold-out CIM Golf Tournament, presented by Foresite Geomatics took place on August 15th at the Fort McMurray Golf Club.
“The Northern Lights Health Foundation is an essential service that our community heavily relies on. With many fundraisers being cancelled this year, we recognize the Health need is greater than ever. We feel privileged to return as the Presenting Sponsor this year,” Says DJ Grant, CIM Board Director and Co-owner of Foresite Geomatics.
The 144 golfers enjoyed welcome drinks, food stations throughout the course, team swag bags, games, raffles, prizes, live music by Dan Tulk, along with many bear and fox sightings. The Colorblind Assassins had their second CIM Tournament win – the first being in 2018.
“This tournament requires a lot of work by many to come to fruition. It makes me so proud to see the commitment from our board and community to support local healthcare, despite a rocky year,” says Mitchel Carter, CIM Board Chair. “Thank you to everyone who sponsored, volunteered, donated prizes, and a special thanks to Foresite Geomatics, for returning as our Presenting Sponsor this year.”
“The CIM Golf Tournament is an important fundraiser in support of the Health Foundation and we look forward to it each year,” said Cindy Amerongen, Executive Director of the Health Foundation. “Over the past seven years this tournament has contributed over $125,000 to the Health Foundation which has had a huge impact on equipment purchases and health program support. Despite the challenges, the tournament organizers rallied local businesses to sponsor and participate. It’s easy to see that we all have a common cause of supporting the healthcare services we want and need in our community. We had a terrific day and we offer our thanks to the volunteers, sponsors and golfers”.
About the CIM Oil Sands Branch
The CIM Oil Sands Branch is about community, networking and sharing technical knowledge in the Wood Buffalo region. The branch works with other local groups, such as the local chapter of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, & Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGA). The CIM meetings qualify for professional development points that APEGA members must earn throughout the year. The branch is actively involved in the community, annually doing fundraisers to support the Northern Lights Foundation, which raises funds to support and promote health care in the Region of Wood Buffalo.
