Dawn Booth is a familiar face around Fort McMurray as the Owner of Media Booth, a local content branding, editing, photography and writing service. Dawn and husband Ryan Booth have purchased not one, but three memorials for both of their children since the wall was erected.

“I am proud to say that my children were born here at the hospital and delivered by Dr. Rhemtula,” she shared. Dawn explains how she went to the official community reveal of the wall on Dec. 2, 2011 and brought her son, Landon, along. “It was a great opportunity to see it revealed,” she said. “I was pregnant at the time and it was only two days away from Landon’s first birthday. So, my husband and I decided to get a spot on the wall to honour his special day.”

Five months later, the Booths’ second son, Dawson, was born and they filed out the request form in the Health Centre before they brought their youngest home. “We wanted to have Dawson beside his brother on the wall. Both Booth brothers are together and when I see their names on it today, it reminds me of the days my boys came into my life and I feel like they have left their mark,” she said.

Moving to Fort McMurray has been life changing for Dawn. She feels that in no time she has made this region her home, and feels this was accomplished due to the networks of community-focused people that surrounded her.

“I really feel like I fit in and this is a place my children will be able to grow and learn about people from all different backgrounds and cultures. They will have many academic, career-oriented and life fulfilling opportunities, just steps from our front door,” she said. “I have been searching for a place like Fort McMurray for some time now and I’m happy I found it.”
