New Executive Director Announced

Fort McMurray, Alberta – The Northern Lights Health Foundation (NLHF) Board of Directors is pleased to name Vanessa MacNevin as the Foundation’s new executive director, effective August 28th, 2023. MacNevin will assume the leadership role from current executive director Cindy Amerongen who, earlier this year, announced her plans to retire.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to thank Cindy for her incredible leadership of the Foundation and the deep, meaningful impact she has made within the community,” says Board Chair, Greg Fuhr. “Over her seven years with the NLHF, Cindy led a capital campaign that resulted in funding the Jeremy Snook Memorial Palliative Care Suites, the Minimally Invasive Surgical Suites, and the Suncor Heart of Health Lobby renovation. Most recent notable funding initiatives were the Sentopia Centre and Synergy Hub for youth and adolescent mental health, and the Better Together Indigenous Health Project.”

The NLHF Board welcomes local leader MacNevin who has served as executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo since 2018 and brings more than 12 years of philanthropic leadership, fundraising and event management experience to the role.

“Following an extensive search, the Board selected Vanessa for her demonstrated track record in leading fundraising efforts, strategic planning and organizational alignment,” says Fuhr. “We wish Cindy a fulfilling and well-deserved retirement and look forward to working with Vanessa to continue progressing the Foundation’s mission of engaging people, inspiring philanthropy and securing funds to improve and promote wellness in Wood Buffalo.”
